Though we are quite familiar with the humble onion as ingredient of curries and salads, the use of its tannin rich outer skin is rather less well known to dye cloths in shades of pale-yellow and variants.

Little known is its use in Ayurveda, where it is used for treating various ailments such as sciatica, arthritis and other diseases which involve bones, joints and peripheral nervous system. In addition, it aids to rejuvenate liver, normalize digestion, relieve constipation and increase appetite. Hence it is very beneficial for hemorrhoids, constipation, jaundice and indigestion.
