There was a study conducted at Cairo University by Dr. Shafik. Effect of different types of textiles on pregnancy. 

In this study on female dogs wearing polyester-bend underwear led to failure to conceive in 57% of the cases. The sterile effect seems to be related to the electrostatic potential generated on the skin due to the friction between the skin and the polyester underwear. It was suggested that an electrostatic field is created which may affect the ovaries with resulting anovulation. In contrast cotton and wool underwear did not generate electrostatic potential and did not affect the conception

This shows, that chemically manufactured garments derived from crude oil can be harmful to a female reproductive system, resulting in grave consequences such as infertility and the extra high dose of chemical dyes to color the garment can add to the damage by disrupting the endocrinal system of the body.
